World Architecture Day Athens , Greece – 1/10/2013

GREECE IN AND AROUND THE AKROTIRI ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE

 

The Greek Society for the Environment and Cultural Heritage and the Greek Society of Architects, both chaired by Yannis Michael, in conjunction with the UIA Hellenic Section, chaired by Ms. Fani Vavili, sponsored an event in Athens to commemorate World Architecture Day. Under the auspices of the Technical Chamber of Greece, the event’s theme focused on society in and around the Akrotiri archaeological site on Santorin island.
The main conference was given by Christos Doumas, archaeologist and head curator at the site, and Nikos Fintikakis, UIA Council member and architect responsible for the bioclimatic structure that protects the dig site.
